Assistive Technology Assessment and Consideration Made Easy

Presenter-Penny Reed

This workshop explains a team decision making process for assistive technology assessment developed by Dr. Reed and supported by the forms from the Wisconsin Assistive Technology Initiative.  It divides the AT assessment process into three phases: Information Gathering, Decision Making and Trial Use. Participants practice the process during the workshop, which increases the likelihood that they will be able to implement it.  Participants receive all needed forms to implement the assessment process.  It is strongly recommended that the manual Assessing Students’ Need for Assistive Technology  (Reed, 2000) be purchased for each participant.  This workshop is typically done in one day.  It can also be adjusted to be provided in 1/2 day or two days.  The manuals are available from the Wisconsin Assistive Technology Initiative, www.wati.org  cost $50.
