Developing and/or Improving Assistive Technology Services

Presenter: Penny Reed

This workshop focuses on specific steps that a school district can take to expand or improve their assistive technology services.  Effective system change in school requires a focus not only on staff training, but also on expanding the district’s capacity to provide services. In the case of assistive technology service, district capacity includes things such as procedures and guidelines, forms, designated roles, systematic communication, and a plan to follow.  The workshop begins with a self-assessment process and then has participants work in small groups to develop plans for change in the areas they identify as needing improvement. Specific examples of steps taken by other school districts are provided.  This workshop is typically done as a one day workshop, but can be condensed if necessary.
