Models of Assistive Technology Assessment

Instructor:  Gayl Bowser

Participants will learn about the essential components of an assistive technology assessment.   The focus is on the role of the child's IEP/IFSP team in identifying the tasks that are difficult for the child and AT tools that might help with those tasks.  Specific instruction in framing the assistive technology question is provided with opportunities for participants to practice using their skills to evaluate children they know and work with.  Once the child's core team has identified problem areas, people with additional expertise may be added to the team to provide additional information.  The focus of this class is on the identification of the provision of meaningful tools for increased independence in customary environments.  The class can be offered as a one day session in person or as an interactive web-based class.
